‘Welcome to debauchery’
What goes on inside a strip club when no one’s watching?
Diary of a Strip Club DJ is written by DJ Anonymous, a veteran journalist who became a DJ in a large American city's two roughest exotic dance clubs.
Five nights each week, DJ Anonymous snarls into a mic and queues pulsing, pounding music in a dark room filled with flashing lights, randy men and naked women.
Some might call it a mid-life crisis. Others, a suicide mission. These dispatches chronicle the author’s white-knuckle mission to master the frenetic art of the strip club DJ. They tell the stories of those overlooked and living beyond the margins. And they recount the berserk, rampaging and wonderfully peculiar moments that could take shape only inside a strip club.

Why become a paid subscriber?
It feels like a tall order to ask anyone to add one more thing to their exploding email inboxes when everyone is overwhelmed by all that’s happening in the world and swept up by an information tsunami the size and power of which no one could have imagined.
DSCDJ’s goal is to be a diversion from all of that. An escape. Different and unexpected. Insightful and thought-provoking. Funny as hell. Hopefully just a damned good read.
When the world goes nuts, why not go hide out in a strip club for a while? These dispatches offer an opportunity to do just that.
More still, mainstream news organizations no longer have the budgets or the staffing to tackle deep-dive narrative journalism projects like these. DSCDJ is one small effort to push back against that.
This project hasn’t been easy. It’s the culmination of nearly two years of reporting and many, many nights away from family. Some of those nights have been nothing less than harrowing. Others hilarious. Most often, it’s both. Along the way, the author has gotten to know a bunch of remarkable people.
Your $5 monthly subscription supports raw, bare-knuckle, first-person journalism telling stories that would have otherwise gone ignored.
Paid subscribers also get full access to DSCDJ’s Archives and catch up on DJ Anonymous’s adventures.
Help spread the word
DSCDJ’s growth depends a great deal on word of mouth. The goal is to touch off high-octane discussion. This reporting can be blunt, defiant, unorthodox and, well, profane. It isn’t for everyone. Still, go ahead and talk about what you’re reading here with friends, family and colleagues.
